7/12 Class Reflection

Tuesday's class with guest lecturer, Bud Larievy, inspired me to re-engage with history. By this I mean it motivated me to want to go out and review the history I've learned, but it also motivated me to search for the history that I did not learn. Although we've discussed this idea of only learning a limited view of history, Mr. Larievy further affirmed the necessity to go out and learn it as a means to know the roots of ideologies still present today. I also felt connected to how Mr. Larievy framed the current status of being bi-lingual in our country. It's plain ridiculous that our country values knowing multiple languages-- only if one has learned it in school and not from home. Indeed, "Language is a part of culture, which is a part of political and economic situations."
