Mr. Larievy was a great guest speaker to have today. The passion that he clearly has for education and his many years of experience combined for a really insightful conversation about ELL students in America. I learned things that I had never known before like that the Department of Defense gives the most funds for bilingual education. Another interesting point that Mr. Larievy brought up was that America is one of the only countries that views individuals who know more than one language as ignorant. I had never thought about it in this way, but it is true considering the fact that so many other countries encourage students to learn multiple languages. The video that we watched gave a nice “insider’s view” on the lives of ELL students. It was amazing to see how a two-way immersion classroom looks like and how much this setting impacts student success.
