WOW! What a powerful discussion today around culture and language. We spoke a great deal about bilingualism and touched upon Question 2. Was this question politically motivated? If so, what was the motivation behind it? We discussed the possible consequences behind teaching in a child's native language (even if it's just for clarification). What about 2-way bilingual programs? What segment of the population benefit from these programs? We discussed if we felt this was a beneficial program for our newcomers. I don't think these parents are made aware of their choices with full understanding. I found the discussion on the different organizational patterns of the different cultures....i.e. "Russians are allowed to lie."
