End of Class Reflection, What?

Alright, so I thought Prof. Grandson mentioned our 1 hr. assignments were serving as our reflections, but just in case, I'll throw my two cents into the "reflection" discussion. Word on the street is all the cool kids are doing it!

Like some of you have already mentioned, I was glad to discuss the relationship between Fanon and Freire, and I was even more excited to share thoughts with a new group of people -- I think that's an integral part of our program, hearing from different voices that challenge us in ways we would not have expected (plus I like to resist clique-formation).

In terms of what I most appreciated about Thursday's agenda, the "Do Now" definitely took the cake (that activity always gets me focused and ready for discussion). We talk a great deal about what we want to accomplish in this course -- and I hope we are all envisioning success instead of failure in our current and future classrooms, but being asked to contemplate failure was a useful task precisely because it makes us self-evaluate on a very "real" level. I might have even stretched the activity to include listing what specific personal weaknesses we envision needing to improve upon (not just societal and classroom "issues," but assumptions and biases we hold, etc.). I've been making a serious effort at heightening my own awareness of these factors ... because for the most part, outside of academic work, I haven't had to consider them too much until now, and I feel lucky that this experience forces me to do so.
