7/14 Class Reflection (Maria)

Hello,

It seems that every ED 435 class always has something memorable to offer.

I am so thankful to have had Zina lead the discussion in the latter half of class and to teach us the diversity line game. Playing the game led me to realize that I do have more in common with you all then I used to think. Essentially, I learned from all of you that you have experienced some sort of tumultuous time or struggle. Additionally, I agree with Siobahn's point that I am not as ashamed to be on the back of the line because that just means that I can relate to my students on a deeper level and that I have more life experiences, negative or positive, under my belt.

Furthermore, I must say that I consider Horace Mann is one of the people that inspire me most. While he definitely did some ground breaking things, I think that we still have plenty to do as teachers. Even though, the condition of the education system is quite depressive, I think that our obligation is to be the Horace Mann's of our time and invest ourselves to make a real impact in the classroom and in the lives of children.

Best,

Maria Valarezo
