7/7 class reflection

I was not sure if we were supposed to reflect virtually on last week but here it goes. I found the F/F conversations about oppression to be really informative and it really brought to my attention the idea that students could very easily feel oppressed in my classroom without me even knowing it. I am now inclined to question whatever goes on in my classroom to make sure that it is not happening. But how can you avoid it? When I am teaching information to my students, I am giving them info that they are absorbing and assuming is true. I can go into class and explain to them, this is just one side, but doesn't that take away from the importance of the issues? What is the point in teaching content if it may or may not be true? What I have learned is to present it in a way that encourages critical thinking rather than blind acceptance. I think that this is what I was missing in my education growing up. In my classroom, it is now a goal of mine to not control the class and be the superior in the room, but instead to show them new things and give them the tools to investigate and find the answers on their own and discuss them with their peers to find some truth.
