C. Aloe- 7/14 Reflection

Even though I was unable to attend the first part of class, I am glad I made it for the last hour. The class discussion about "Culturally Competent Teachers" really struck a chord with me. Zina's presentation and activity reiterated the importance of establishing mutual respect in the classroom. My students at Brook Farm never called me by my first name, but they still recognized that I was willing to meet them halfway, so-to-speak. Ultimately, I think teachers should try to remember what it was like to be a student, and apply those memories to their daily practice. After all, teaching is not about short-term recognition, it is about the long-term impact of our conversations and experiences with students.
