Reflection 7/7- Freire and Fanon

I apologize for posting about last week's class at this point. To be truthful, I am still discovering how to best budget my time.

During our small group discussion, I discovered that our group made a variety of strong connections to the current negative internalization thoughts of children of color to what was described in the Freire and Fanon readings. We specifically mentioned that we were horrified at the harshness of the terms that both authors used to describe blacks and the condition of the racism that's inflicted upon them. Furthermore, we explained that we need to address and combat internalization thoughts early in the student's development, so that they do not affect their future in school and in life. Some of the ways to deal with this matter are children's literature and other ethnically diverse curriculum materials. Additionally, we agreed upon the notion that we would not introduce these readings to early high school children because of the depth of the language, but that we might consider doing so with an advanced group of seniors.

I really enjoyed these readings, as controversial as they were.

Best,

Maria
