Kono Thursday July 14th Reflection

Zina's presentation was such a wonderful addition to our past class. I think it complemented our previous discussions and allowed us to empower one of our own to teach us. The multicultural education model is something that I believe each of us can incorporate into our classrooms, but I am concerned about the extent of its effects when it is possible that no other teachers are employing similar strategies. Thus, how do we ensure that our implementations of ME are at least somewhat positive and lasting for our students? What resources do we have if we face significant opposition in the rest of the school?

From the class movie, one of the most interesting aspects of the historical development of public education is that it is absolutely not something inherent or fundamental to our country's origins. The issues we face today in our schools then are clear reflections of the struggles this country faced to form such an important and universally accessible public system.
